Buying a skylight for your camper: What to look for

A skylight is more than just an opening for daylight. It provides ventilation, pleasant natural light, and helps prevent condensation. Not every skylight fits every type of camper. It makes a difference whether you drive a panel van, a coachbuilt model, or an expedition truck. Anyone building or converting a vehicle needs a skylight that truly works: watertight in heavy rain, firmly closed while driving, and durable enough to last for years.

Why install a skylight in your camper?

A skylight offers several benefits:

  • Light: more daylight makes your camper feel more spacious and comfortable.
  • Ventilation: prevents moisture, mold, and musty smells.
  • Heat regulation: lets warm air escape on hot days.
  • Privacy: with the right glass or a blackout blind, you can shield the interior from view.

What should you consider when buying a skylight?

1. Size and Vehicle Type

Not every skylight fits every vehicle. Consider the available space on the roof, any ribs or reinforcements in the paneling, and the roof thickness. Our skylights are suitable for various types and brands of campers.

2. Insulation and Thermal Bridges

A poorly insulated skylight is a source of condensation. Choose a skylight with thermal break, so that the inside and outside are not in direct contact through conductive materials like metal. This prevents thermal bridges and fogged-up windows.

3. Water Tightness and Installation

Waterproof installation starts with a good design. Our skylights come with a sealing edge and are installed to fit tightly on the roof, preventing leaks.

4. Ease of Use

Our skylights open manually, without a handle. Always in the same direction, and can be supplied with an insect screen or blackout blind.

5. Airflow and Ventilation Setting

Some skylights can be partially opened for continuous ventilation, even in the rain. Ideal for nighttime or while cooking. Also consider the maximum opening angle and the installation direction of the skylight. Outbound skylights even offer a closed ventilation setting.

6. Material and Durability

Our skylights are made of durable materials, resistant to all weather conditions, with UV-resistant coatings. They retain their shape, even after years of use and exposure to sun and cold.

Outbound skylights: built for adventure

Our skylights are designed for use in changing conditions. In the desert, in the forest, or on a city parking lot—you want to be able to rely on your skylight. No leaks, no rattling noises, no screws coming loose.

Custom screens for campers

Some vehicles require non-standard sizes or specially shaped windows. Think of campers with a unique layout, modified builds, or self-built expedition trucks. In such cases, a standard screen size may not fit. That’s why we also supply custom screens, tailored to the exact installation situation.
