Glass and Polycarbonate Combined
The VAN roof window was developed as a lighter alternative to our existing double-glazed models. While those robust versions are ideal for heavier expedition vehicles, the VAN series is designed specifically for campers, caravans, and vans where weight is critical. By switching from double glazing to a combination of glass (outer side) and 4 mm polycarbonate (inner side), the weight has been reduced by approximately 30%.
The glass remains permanently clear and scratch-resistant; the vacuum-formed, UV-resistant polycarbonate prevents leakage and creates a fully transparent frame around the glass. Like all our models, a pressure-regulating valve is included as standard, making it suitable for use at unlimited altitudes. The installation height is just 5 cm when closed—ideal for compact vehicles.

Easy Installation and replacement
The polyester frame is lightweight, strong, and bonds well to a variety of roof types. Installation is efficient: the roof window and integrated roller blind are mounted in a single step from the outside. Inside, a felt edge provides a clean finish. This felt adapts automatically to roof thicknesses between 25 and 60 mm, with no adjustments required. The entire interior finish, including the blind and trim, is available in black or white.
Thanks to the use of standardized dimensions, the VAN roof window is suitable not only for new builds but also as a direct replacement for many existing models. Installation can be carried out by professionals as well as experienced DIYers.

Available in common camper sizes
The VAN roof window is available in three common cut-out sizes: 40×40 cm, 70×50 cm, and 96×65 cm. This makes it widely compatible with most campers, caravans, and vans—both for new builds and replacements.
It offers four adjustable positions: closed, ventilation mode (locked and suitable for driving when installed facing forward), approximately 30 degrees open, and fully open to 70 degrees. The large opening angle makes it suitable for roof access, for example to reach a roof rack, solar panels, or a rooftop tent. Hinges, gas struts, handles, and brackets are all made from high-quality materials—just as you’d expect from Outbound.

Is this roof window suitable as a replacement for an existing one?
Yes. The VAN roof window is available in standard cut-out sizes—40×40, 70×50, and 96×65 cm—and can be used as a direct replacement for models from brands like Dometic Heki, Fiamma, etc. Both the cut-out and the external dimensions are aligned with common setups, so you’re unlikely to run into issues with nearby components like solar panels or interior cabinetry.
Can I drive with the roof window open?
Yes, but only in the ventilation position. This is a locked setting designed to stay secure while driving, provided the roof window is installed facing the direction of travel. Fully opening the window while driving is not allowed.
Can I install the roof window myself?
Yes. The installation is designed to be straightforward: the roof window and integrated roller blind are mounted as a single unit from the outside. The interior felt trim adapts automatically to roof thicknesses between 25 and 60 mm. Both professionals and skilled DIYers can install the product easily.
